How It All Began – Our First Show Leads
When we first started showing our Cockers, friends of ours — also breeders — asked, "What kind of lead are you going to use in the ring?"
Proudly, I pulled out a standard exhibition lead from a well-known collar brand. The response came immediately: "No, a proper show lead!"
The problem? These kinds of leads aren't easy to find — and when you do, it's usually only at shows. Great, we thought. Since I occasionally make our own leads by hand (though we also own some high-end ones from that famous brand), I figured: Why not just make it myself?
I soon discovered this hobby can get quite expensive — depending on the type of bead used, whether it's 18-karat gold-plated or real silver. Whether it includes a separate slip-collar or is designed as a simple cord. There are few limits, really.
Our most luxurious lead? Rose gold plated, with a material value of around €53.
