We – that’s my husband Stefan Ehrenstamm, our English Cocker Spaniels Frida, Maybelle, Arwen, Wallace, Shakespeare, and me, Ulrike. Together, our little family with its floppy-eared members lives in Reichelsheim, in the beautiful Odenwald region of Germany. More precisely, we are located in Klein-Gumpen, right next to a forestry operation. Here, we enjoy a spacious home with an even bigger garden, surrounded by trees, meadows, and hedgerows – a little paradise for us and our dogs.
Dogs have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My father was active in dog sports (IGP) for many years and bred German Shepherds.
So, you could say that my love for dogs was passed down to me from the cradle.
After a dog-free chapter in my twenties, Lilou came into my life – a red English Cocker Spaniel girl full of charm and character. She was nothing like the German Shepherds I grew up with: affectionate, sensitive, endlessly loyal, yet lively, clever, and blessed with a brilliant nose.
To Lilou, I was her everything – and she became mine in return.
My journey with English Cocker Spaniels truly began with Lilou. I explored different types of training with her and quickly realized that obedience wasn’t quite a Cocker's strength – but in dummy training, she truly thrived.
Lilou earned her companion dog certificate and even passed a rather unusual protection dog test.
She was one of a kind in every way.
Lilou lived to be 15 years and 7 months old. I miss her every day.
In her honor, our kennel name was born: “From the Roses of Scotland” – a tribute to a place we both loved dearly and visited often, as I have family ties there.
Today, we breed English Cocker Spaniels with great care, passion, and a deep sense of responsibility – just the way we love them: friendly, intelligent, sound in temperament, and above all, healthy.
Health is especially important to us. All of our breeding dogs undergo thorough health testing, including screening for:
Hip Dysplasia (HD), Familial Nephropathy (FN), Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), Acral Mutilation Syndrome (AMS), Bernard-Soulier Syndrome (BSS), Patellar Luxation, certified eye exams (DOK/ECVO), as well as regular veterinary health checks.
Only dogs that are both healthy and have excellent temperaments are used in our breeding program.
Our goal is to raise robust, well-balanced, family-friendly English Cocker Spaniels who not only meet the breed standard in appearance, but also embody the cheerful, curious, and affectionate nature that makes this breed so special.
We place great importance on raising our puppies with love, care, and a strong foundation.
That’s why they grow up right in the heart of our family – well socialized, gently exposed to everyday life, and surrounded by nature, attention, and affection from day one.
For us, breeding means taking responsibility for a beloved breed – and we embrace that responsibility with pride and joy.
If you’d like to learn more about us or our kennel, we’d be delighted to hear from you or welcome you for a visit in the Odenwald!
