General Appearance
Cheerful, sturdy, athletic, well-balanced, and compact.

Temperament
A happy disposition with an incessantly wagging tail, displaying typical eager movement, especially when following a scent trail. Fearless in dense, rough terrain. Gentle and affectionate, yet full of life and exuberance.

Coat
Smooth and silky in texture, never wiry or wavy, not overly abundant, and never curly. The body, front legs, and hind legs above the hock are well feathered.

Colors

Solid Colors:
Black; red; gold; liver (chocolate brown); black and tan; brown and tan.
In these colors, no white is allowed except for a small patch on the chest.

Parti-Colors:
Bicolor: Black and white; orange and white; brown and white; lemon and white. These may occur with or without ticking.
Tricolor: Black, white and tan; brown, white and tan.
Roan: Blue roan; orange roan; lemon roan; brown roan; blue roan with tan; brown roan with tan.
Any other colors or markings deviating from the above are considered undesirable.

Size and Weight
Approximate height for males: 39 – 41 cm (15.4 – 16.1 inches)
Approximate height for females: 38 – 39 cm (15.0 – 15.4 inches)
Approximate weight: 13 – 14.5 kg (28.7 – 32 lbs)

When considering weight, owners should always take their dog’s proportions into account. As a guideline, look at your dog from above: a visible waist should be present, and you should be able to feel the ribcage.
